Plea to the Departing

When footsteps are coming closer
I play a vacant hand
numb to desperate feelings
in silence I have planned
and when the shadows start to part
and shy eyes look on mine
I hide behind fake blindness
stifle love
with fear sublime

But when she starts to walk away
and there’s nothing more to hide
panic overtakes me
and my facade begins to slide
because the bitterness that terrifies
isn’t in your eyes
it’s in the time you’re gone from me
when even silence is denied

So turn back to me
don’t wander
even if I cannot cry
even if my eyes are scaled grey
and my every word a lie

Because while I hide
all that I know I have
for fear of losing out
the love I feel for you
my dear
is one thing I can’t live without
