Remember

Do you remember
that moment when it came to matter?
Matter enough not to do or say what you should,
when judgement put it beyond what you could?
When words and actions reached out
to send tremors through foundations
that were once fluid?
And you started to know that your home was no ship
and that storms and quakes
could shatter the ground beneath

To know that the home grown around you
could hold
if you let the weather stay fair
even as that fading ship
came to be Titanic
rather than free

So do you remember?
That moment when it came to matter?
Matter enough not to do or say what you should,
when judgement put it beyond what you could?

And do you remember now
why it mattered enough
to abandon that voyage?

And did it?
